About the Role

This opportunity is for a Director of Communications to lead integrated internal and external communications for a rapidly scaling drone delivery business. The role will shape communications strategy, corporate narrative, consumer trust, executive communications, crisis communications, and public positioning as residential on-demand delivery expands across 20 U.S. metropolitan areas.

The position operates at the intersection of autonomous technology, consumer adoption, public policy, and regulatory engagement. The successful candidate will translate complex technology into clear, credible stories for consumers, enterprise partners, policymakers, federal aviation authorities, local governments, technology media, and employees while leading a multidisciplinary communications team.

What You'll Do

• Design and lead a holistic internal and external communications strategy supporting expansion into complex metropolitan markets.
• Develop communications that help normalize drone delivery as a trusted everyday service while preserving the innovative nature of the technology.
• Lead B2B and B2C communications that demonstrate the value and practical relevance of drone delivery to restaurant and retail partners.
• Partner with Government Affairs and Public Policy teams to engage federal aviation authorities, policymakers, and local municipal governments.
• Develop communications strategies addressing regulatory and community concerns related to noise, privacy, and airspace safety.
• Oversee executive communications, thought leadership, internal communications, and crisis communications frameworks.
• Distill complex autonomous technology into compelling and authentic stories for consumers, enterprise partners, policymakers, technology media, and employees.
• Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing communications team spanning internal, external, policy, and product communications disciplines.
• Foster collaboration, accountability, and excellence across the communications function.

Qualifications

Required Experience

• 20+ years of experience in strategic communications, public relations, or corporate affairs, ideally in scaled consumer-brand environments.
• Demonstrated experience managing reputational risk and developing corporate narratives for organizations undergoing rapid commercial scaling or regulatory scrutiny.
• Proven experience managing multifaceted communications teams across internal, external, product, and policy disciplines.
• Experience advising C-suite leadership on thought leadership and crisis management.

Required Skills

• Ability to develop and lead integrated internal and external communications strategies across consumer, business, regulatory, media, and employee audiences.
• Strong expertise in reputation management, corporate narrative development, executive communications, thought leadership, and crisis communications.
• Ability to translate highly complex autonomous technology into clear, compelling, and authentic public-facing narratives.
• Strong executive presence and the ability to advise senior leaders on high-stakes communications and reputational issues.
• Ability to lead and develop communications professionals across internal, external, public policy, and product communications functions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with federal aviation authorities, policymakers, municipal governments, enterprise partners, consumers, media, and employees.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Policy, Business, or equivalent practical experience.
