- Follow up with payers on unpaid claims, underpayments, and payment discrepancies to obtain payment and close outstanding items.
- Investigate claim denials and rejections, preparing corrected claims, appeals, and reconsiderations with the documentation required by payers.
- Review claim edits and rejections before and after submission, working with the RCM team to identify root causes and prevent repeat denials.
- Post and reconcile insurance payments, adjustments, and remittances accurately and on schedule.
- Research unapplied cash, overpayments, and underpayments, resolving discrepancies against contracted reimbursement rates.
- Track AR aging, denial trends, and payment posting accuracy, contributing findings to the weekly RCM flash report.
- Answer patient questions about claims, account balances, and billing professionally, escalating payer or system issues to the appropriate owner.
- Identify recurring reimbursement and process problems and recommend changes that reduce denials and accelerate collections.
- Resolve denied claims before timely filing deadlines, keep payment posting current, and support measurable progress toward the cash collection target.
- Translate recurring payer, coding, and workflow issues into process improvements that strengthen collection accuracy and reporting reliability.
