About the Role
The Implementation Specialist is responsible for the technical deployment, configuration, integration, and successful launch of enterprise imaging software across healthcare customer environments. This position involves installing and configuring Connect and ImageX, establishing healthcare data interfaces, coordinating system testing, and guiding customers through onboarding, implementation, go-live, and production readiness. The role manages 17–25 active customer projects while supporting approximately 30–40 installations, kickoffs, connectivity calls, and training sessions each month.
This hands-on, customer-facing technical role requires practical expertise in DICOM, HL7 v2, FHIR, SMART on FHIR, Windows Server, and healthcare imaging workflows. Responsibilities involve working directly with hospital IT teams, PACS administrators, interface analysts, security stakeholders, and third-party technology vendors, alongside internal Project Management, Support, Engineering, Customer Success, and Imaging Informatics teams.
What You'll Do
- Install, upgrade, and migrate ImageX software across customer Windows Server and virtualized environments, verifying that infrastructure meets technical requirements.
- Configure Connect environments, including Spaces, user permissions, DICOM locations, AE titles, routing rules, and site-to-site network connectivity.
- Maintain consistent system configurations, software versions, and deployment practices across testing and production environments.
- Build, map, configure, and troubleshoot HL7 v2, FHIR, SMART on FHIR, and single sign-on (SSO) integrations, coordinating technical requirements with customer EHR and IT teams.
- Investigate DICOM, HL7, and Windows infrastructure issues using system logs, diagnostic utilities, and root cause analysis to identify and resolve implementation problems.
- Troubleshoot network and infrastructure connectivity involving firewalls, network ports, VPNs, security certificates, DNS, proxies, antivirus and endpoint security, disk capacity, and Windows services.
- Coordinate technical issue resolution with customer IT departments and third-party PACS, VNA, RIS, and EHR vendors when problems span multiple systems.
- Escalate complex technical incidents to Support and Engineering teams with detailed diagnostic findings, troubleshooting history, and supporting documentation.
- Lead technical kickoff meetings, recurring project status calls, implementation working sessions, software installations, and customer training activities.
- Provide technical guidance to PACS administrators, interface analysts, hospital IT professionals, security teams, and other customer stakeholders throughout implementation.
- Develop and execute implementation test plans, monitor acceptance criteria, coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT), and confirm production readiness before deployment.
- Lead production go-lives and system cutovers, including scheduled early-morning, evening, or overnight implementation windows when required.
- Provide technical assistance during post-launch hypercare periods to resolve deployment issues and support stable production operations.
- Coordinate migrations from existing image exchange platforms, including parallel system operations, data and workflow validation, and transition planning.
- Partner with Imaging Informatics specialists to support clinical end-user training, adoption, and transition to newly implemented imaging workflows.
- Assess customer environments for technical security, infrastructure, and connectivity requirements during onboarding, involving Information Security specialists when appropriate.
- Handle customer technical information, diagnostic materials, and potentially protected health information in accordance with HIPAA and applicable security practices.
- Maintain accurate implementation records, project statuses, assigned tasks, time tracking, Salesforce information, technical documentation, and knowledge gained through customer engagements.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- At least 3 years of hands-on healthcare IT experience involving PACS, VNA, RIS, EHR, or related medical imaging systems within a software vendor, health system, or imaging center environment.
- At least 2 years of production experience configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting DICOM and HL7 v2 interfaces.
- Demonstrated ability to manage at least 15 concurrent customer engagements while maintaining accurate documentation, effective communication, and consistent follow-through.
Required Skills
- Ability to independently analyze HL7 messages and DICOM associations, diagnose interface failures, and identify appropriate technical resolutions.
- Working knowledge of medical imaging workflows across radiology, cardiology, and oncology.
- Strong practical knowledge of Windows Server administration and network troubleshooting, including ports, firewalls, VPNs, certificates, DNS, and endpoint security.
- Ability to lead customer-facing technical discussions with hospital IT departments, security teams, PACS administrators, and other technical stakeholders.
- Strong implementation coordination, technical documentation, communication, and customer engagement skills.
- Familiarity with HIPAA requirements and the ability to exercise appropriate judgment when handling technical records or diagnostic information that may contain protected health information.
- Willingness to participate in scheduled early-morning and occasional evening or overnight production cutovers during go-live periods. The position does not require an on-call rotation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with healthcare interface engines, particularly Mirth Connect or NextGen Connect.
- Experience with Epic integrations, including Interconnect, Showroom Connection Hub, vendor services, or application provisioning.
- Experience supporting VA or other federal healthcare environments, including VistA systems or multi-site Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) programs.
- Knowledge of additional imaging workflows involving urology, ambulatory imaging, or federal healthcare settings.
- Experience migrating healthcare customers from competing image exchange software platforms.
- Familiarity with Salesforce, TaskRay, or comparable project delivery and implementation management platforms.
- Relevant professional certifications, such as NextGen Certified Professional in Mirth Connect, ARRT, Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP), or an AWS foundational certification.
