Forward Deployed Engineer
Remote (United States)
About the Role
This opportunity is for a customer-facing technical engineer focused on delivering production-ready integrations. The role involves writing real code, debugging real systems, and helping customers get technical implementations running and scaling inside their products.
This is not a support role. It is a high-ownership engineering role that combines hands-on software development, backend integration work, live debugging, and direct customer collaboration. The ideal candidate can operate quickly in ambiguous situations, communicate clearly, and turn customer needs into shipped technical solutions.
Status: Full-Time
Pay:$160,000 – $220,000 per year. Equity may range up to 0.10%.
What You’ll Do
- Own technical integration delivery for priority customers from initial API usage through production scale
- Write TypeScript and Node.js code to build, customize, and debug integrations
- Build integrations with payment systems, cloud platforms, and third-party APIs
- Debug complex real-world issues live with customers, including crawling edge cases, data pipeline failures, and infrastructure constraints
- Create reusable solutions and playbooks that turn one-off customer problems into repeatable team wins
- Translate customer friction into clear product and engineering insights
- Route technical feedback and field learnings to the right product and engineering partners
- Work closely with core engineering on reliability, performance, and developer experience improvements
- Own loosely defined technical problems that may not yet have a clear owner
Qualifications
- 3+ years of engineering experience or equivalent experience shipping production systems
- Strong TypeScript and Node.js engineering skills
- Ability to write clean, production-quality code quickly
- Experience building integrations with external APIs
- Understanding of why integrations become brittle and how to make them reliable
- Experience with payment systems such as Stripe or similar billing platforms
- Experience integrating with cloud platforms such as GCP, Vercel, or comparable providers
- Strong backend and data fundamentals, including system design, schema modeling, and data-at-scale reasoning
- Understanding of when to use relational databases and when other approaches may be better
- Security awareness around authentication and authorization patterns such as OAuth, API keys, and JWTs
- Comfort working directly with customers in ambiguous, high-stakes technical situations
- Ability to communicate clearly, set expectations honestly, and follow through reliably
- Experience as an integration engineer, platform engineer, code-heavy solutions engineer, or early engineer at an API-first startup is especially relevant
Not a Fit If
- You prefer to hand customer problems to another team after the first call
- You are focused mainly on demos and do not ship production code
- You need fully scoped tickets before you can begin making progress
- You prefer a narrowly defined role with fixed ownership boundaries
Work Environment
- Small, fast-moving technical team with loosely defined ownership areas
- High-autonomy environment where engineers are expected to move quickly and solve unclear problems
