About the Role
This opportunity is for a Senior Software Engineer (Full-Stack) to work across multiple product teams in a high-impact engineering role. The position focuses on delivering customer-facing features, raising engineering standards, supporting the growth of other engineers, and taking ownership of technical outcomes.
The engineer will work closely with product teams, senior engineers, engineering managers, and designers to build and improve financial technology products involving banking, tax automation, expense tracking, and related small-business tools.
What You’ll Do
Ship Products That Drive Business Impact
- Build and improve customer-facing features across banking, tax automation, and expense-tracking products.
- Develop full-stack features using Ruby on Rails, React, Redux, and TypeScript.
- Work across backend APIs, relational data models, and polished frontend experiences.
- Design and maintain data models using MySQL, Spanner, or similar relational database technologies.
- Partner closely with product and design teams to move efficiently from an initial idea to a production-ready feature.
- Maintain a high standard for product quality throughout the development process.
- Own work from beginning to end, including scoping, implementation, review, deployment, and production monitoring.
Improve Engineering Practices
- Raise the technical standard through code reviews, architectural guidance, and honest, constructive feedback.
- Help establish engineering patterns and conventions that make the codebase easier to understand, maintain, and extend.
- Identify and resolve reliability, performance, and scalability concerns before they become production incidents.
- Reduce technical debt through practical improvements that support current product and engineering priorities.
- Contribute to technical planning and help influence how software is built across the engineering organization.
- Support broader engineering initiatives involving standards, migrations, platform improvements, and codebase quality.
Develop Engineers and Support Technical Leadership
- Act as a technical mentor and thought partner for senior engineers across multiple teams.
- Collaborate with engineering managers on technical planning, project scoping, and team health.
- Help engineers grow through pairing, code reviews, architectural discussions, and design conversations.
- Provide clear technical direction while supporting collaboration and alignment across teams and functions.
- Demonstrate strong engineering judgment through clear thinking, maintainable code, and effective decision-making under ambiguity.
Qualifications
Required Background
- At least 12 years of full-stack software engineering experience.
- Strong backend engineering fundamentals.
- Production experience with Ruby on Rails or a comparable backend framework.
- Comfort working with React and TypeScript on the frontend.
- Experience building customer-facing features across frontend and backend systems.
- Experience developing and maintaining backend APIs.
- Experience working with relational databases at scale, including MySQL, Spanner, or similar technologies.
- Experience taking technical work through scoping, development, review, release, and monitoring.
- A track record of working across multiple teams or business functions.
- Ability to build productive relationships and establish alignment among technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical decisions clearly to engineers and non-engineers.
- High standards for code quality, maintainability, reliability, performance, and scalability.
- Ability to work effectively in ambiguous situations and take ownership of outcomes.
Additional Relevant Experience
- Experience in FinTech, financial services, or products involving complex compliance requirements.
- Previous experience as a technical lead, software architect, or informal engineering leader.
- Experience mentoring senior engineers and supporting their technical development.
- Experience leading engineering-wide initiatives involving technical standards, migrations, or platform improvements.
- Experience contributing architectural guidance across multiple product or engineering teams.
