Compensation: $115,000 – $120,000 per year
About the Role
This opportunity is for a DevOps Engineer supporting a project for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The role is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing scalable cloud infrastructure within Amazon Web Services (AWS) while maintaining strong performance, security, reliability, and cost efficiency through automation, Infrastructure as Code, and DevOps best practices.
The DevOps Engineer will work closely with development teams to deploy and support cloud-based applications across multiple environments while using AI-assisted tools to improve automation, operational efficiency, troubleshooting, documentation, and delivery speed.
What You’ll Do
- Design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable, and highly available AWS cloud infrastructure using services such as EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, ELB/ALB, EKS, IAM, and other AWS-native technologies
- Provision and manage cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code tools, including Terraform and AWS CloudFormation
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and DevOps best practices to automate application deployments
- Deploy, manage, and support containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes, including Amazon EKS
- Implement AWS security best practices, including IAM, encryption, network segmentation, logging, monitoring, and compliance controls
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize cloud environments for performance, availability, reliability, and cost efficiency
- Collaborate with software developers and cross-functional teams to design secure and scalable cloud solutions that meet application and business requirements
- Use AI-assisted development and operations tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT, or similar platforms to accelerate scripting, infrastructure automation, documentation, and troubleshooting
- Validate all AI-generated outputs for security, accuracy, and compliance before implementation
- Support production releases, incident response, infrastructure maintenance, and other technical initiatives as required
- Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support team objectives and project success
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of relevant experience as a DevOps Engineer
- Hands-on experience designing and supporting AWS cloud infrastructure in production environments
- Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or similar tools
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes, including Amazon EKS
- Proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell scripting
- Strong understanding of AWS networking, security, IAM, encryption, and the AWS Shared Responsibility Model
- Solid understanding of networking concepts, including subnetting, routing, VPNs, load balancing, and firewall rules
- Experience troubleshooting complex cloud infrastructure and deployment issues
- Strong communication and collaboration skills within Agile development environments
Additional Qualifications
- Experience supporting the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or other government agencies
- Experience supporting Authority to Operate (ATO) processes or secure government cloud environments
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools for DevOps automation and infrastructure management
- One or more relevant certifications, such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional, AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty, or AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional
- Ability to obtain government clearance
