About the Role
This opportunity is for an Applied AI Engineer responsible for identifying, designing, building, deploying, and maintaining AI-powered solutions that improve productivity across the organization. Working directly with executive leadership and cross-functional teams, you will solve high-impact operational challenges by implementing practical AI applications, LLM integrations, automation, and workflow optimization.
This is a mid-to-senior individual contributor position with significant ownership and autonomy. The role focuses on production AI systems rather than AI research or model training, emphasizing practical business impact, operational excellence, security, and long-term maintainability.
What You'll Do
- Partner directly with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to identify high-impact opportunities for AI-powered workflow automation.
- Evaluate business processes across multiple departments to identify opportunities for AI-driven optimization.
- Configure commercial AI platforms when they meet business requirements and build custom AI solutions when necessary.
- Design, develop, secure, deploy, and maintain production AI applications used throughout the organization.
- Build and operate virtual machine (VM) sandboxes, Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, and vendor LLM integrations.
- Develop AI applications that integrate seamlessly with existing business systems while partnering with Security throughout the design and deployment process.
- Collaborate closely with end users to understand operational workflows before designing and implementing AI solutions.
- Define ownership, maintenance plans, and retirement criteria for every deployed AI application.
- Maintain production AI systems and provide ongoing operational support.
- Balance security, maintainability, speed of delivery, and long-term business value when making technical decisions.
Qualifications
- Approximately 3 to 5 years of experience building, deploying, and operating production software services.
- Hands-on experience delivering production LLM applications or AI agent solutions that are actively used by end users.
- Experience building and operating virtual machine (VM) sandboxes, Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, and vendor LLM integrations.
- Strong understanding of commercial AI platforms with the judgment to determine when to configure existing solutions versus building custom applications.
- Ability to work directly with Legal, Finance, Marketing, Engineering, and other business teams to understand workflows and deliver practical AI solutions without relying on dedicated product management.
- Strong judgment when prioritizing projects based on business impact.
- Security-first mindset with experience incorporating security requirements into application architecture from the beginning of each project.
- Strong operational ownership with responsibility for maintaining, supporting, and retiring production systems when appropriate.
- Ability to independently identify opportunities, estimate impact, prioritize initiatives, and execute with minimal supervision.
- Experience with OpenHands, LangChain, or similar coding agent frameworks deployed in production environments.
- Experience building and maintaining Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers.
- Experience developing command-line (CLI) tools and automation adopted by engineering teams.
- Experience with identity management, secrets management, network security, sandboxing, or related security technologies.
- Experience integrating third-party platforms and determining when custom development provides greater long-term value.
- Experience serving as the primary engineer for a functional area within a small organization is preferred.
- Experience managing vendor relationships, technology spending, data exposure, and renewals is preferred.
- Experience with Rust, Python, TypeScript, or systems programming.
- Linux systems administration and DevOps experience.
- Blockchain or Solana experience is not required.
Benefits
- High-impact individual contributor role with significant ownership and autonomy.
- Direct collaboration with executive leadership on organization-wide AI initiatives.
- Opportunity to build AI solutions that improve productivity across multiple business functions.
- Fast-paced engineering environment focused on rapid execution and high-quality software delivery.
- Opportunity to shape long-term AI adoption, automation, and operational efficiency across the organization.
