About the Role
This opportunity is for a Quality Assurance Engineer who will help transform a largely manual QA process into a faster, more scalable, and automation-driven quality engineering function. The role is designed for an engineer who approaches code review, release safety, and testing as engineering problems rather than checklist-driven tasks.
You will work closely with another QA engineer and engineering leadership while building automated testing capabilities, improving pull request workflows, and strengthening release reliability. The position is expected to evolve over time toward broader software reliability responsibilities.
A major objective of this role is to reduce a typical manual QA pass from approximately 60 minutes to 10-15 minutes through effective automation, better tooling, and improved engineering processes.
What You’ll Do
QA & Test Automation
- Evaluate and implement automated testing tools, including Playwright-based frameworks and UI regression tools such as Meticulous
- Build automation that reduces QA turnaround time and decreases reliance on repetitive manual testing
- Write, maintain, and execute your own test scripts and automated checks
- Take ownership of high-volume, repetitive QA work, including dependency and package upgrade pull requests
- Help prevent QA work from becoming dependent on a single reviewer or testing bottleneck
PR Queue & Developer Collaboration
- Maintain clear visibility into the open pull request queue
- Track how long pull requests remain open before QA and how long they remain in the QA process
- Identify and flag areas where pull requests are becoming delayed or blocked
- Build and maintain a clear handoff process between Development and QA using appropriate tagging, status tracking, and communication practices
- Proactively request the screenshots, context, reproduction steps, and other information QA needs from developers rather than allowing missing information to delay testing
- Improve communication and workflow efficiency so pull requests move faster between Development and QA
Release Reliability
- Help design phased and contained production release strategies that reduce the potential impact of unsuccessful deployments
- Develop release approaches that go beyond reliance on feature flags alone
- Support safer, more predictable software releases through better testing and rollout practices
- Gradually take ownership of additional release and rollout responsibilities as the position evolves toward software reliability engineering
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Engineering background with hands-on experience writing and shipping code
- Experience building and maintaining test automation in a real production environment
- Hands-on experience with modern automation frameworks such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or similar tools
- Ability to evaluate testing processes and identify opportunities to improve automation, speed, and release safety
- Comfort pushing back when a process, pull request, or release is not ready to ship, including when working with senior engineers
- Strong product-first mindset with the ability to understand the underlying objective before selecting a technical or infrastructure solution
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of QA processes, tooling, and workflow improvements
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with release engineering
- Experience designing or supporting phased rollouts
- Experience with canary deployments
- Experience evaluating or implementing UI regression testing tools
- Interest in expanding into a broader software reliability engineering role over time
- Experience working on a small, fast-moving team where responsibilities span multiple areas
Success Metrics
- Reduce the average QA pass from approximately 60 minutes to 10-15 minutes
- Independently own and clear the dependency and package upgrade pull request queue within the first month
- Establish complete visibility into pull request queue age
- Implement a working tagging and handoff system between Development and QA
- Evaluate and implement at least one automated front-end or UI regression testing tool
Work Environment
- This is a full-time remote position
- Candidates may be located anywhere in the United States or Latin America
- Significant overlap with U.S. business hours is required
- The environment is fast-moving and highly collaborative, with broad individual ownership and direct impact on engineering processes
Benefits
- Competitive base salary
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage
- 401(k) retirement plan with employer match
- Equity through stock options
- Flexible, remote-first work environment
