Senior Infrastructure Engineer
Remote (United States)
Job Details
Location: United States
Workplace: Remote
Employment Type: Full time
Core Areas: AWS infrastructure, Kubernetes/EKS, Terraform, Helm, CI/CD and GitOps, production reliability, developer tooling, cloud cost optimization
Compensation: $164,595–$212,744 annually, plus equity.
Schedule: At least 4 hours of overlap with EMEA time zones is preferred. On-call responsibilities involve approximately one week per quarter.
About the Role
The Senior Infrastructure Engineer will maintain and improve the production platform that supports engineering delivery and software used by millions of creators. Working alongside two experienced infrastructure engineers and reporting to the Infrastructure Engineering Manager, this role combines production reliability, safer deployments, infrastructure modernization, and internal developer tooling. The focus is on keeping systems dependable while helping engineers build, test, and release changes faster.
The position requires practical expertise in AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, and production CI/CD, alongside a product-oriented approach to infrastructure. Engineering, Product, and Design are the platform’s internal customers and contributors. Priorities include progressive delivery, actionable observability, AI-assisted workflows, and documentation that supports both incident response and agent-assisted development.
What You'll Do
- Own day-to-day production reliability across EKS, ArgoCD, and AWS infrastructure. Tune autoscaling and resource usage to keep services stable under changing traffic.
- Participate in the engineering-wide on-call rotation, respond to incidents, and turn follow-up findings into changes that prevent recurring failures.
- Improve CI/CD speed and resilience, and implement Argo Rollouts with reliable rollback paths that allow problematic deployments to be reverted within seconds to minutes.
- Develop internal tools as maintained products, including local development environments, full-stack staging environments for individual pull requests, and CLI tooling. Gather developer feedback, measure adoption, and improve workflows for both engineers and parallel AI agents.
- Automate low-risk operational workflows and use AI to accelerate investigations, documentation, and boilerplate work. AI assists the people managing infrastructure rather than changing infrastructure directly.
- Drive lifecycle upgrades for Node.js and Python runtimes, Kubernetes, EKS, Helm, and Terraform-managed infrastructure. Take ownership of infrastructure security vulnerabilities.
- Improve monitoring signal quality and platform cost visibility through Datadog analysis, AWS rightsizing, and log filtering, helping observability and cloud spending grow more slowly than the business.
- Partner with Engineering, Product, and Design on platform improvements, strengthen operational documentation, and contribute to weekly dependency and vulnerability management.
- Build shared infrastructure ownership and reduce reliance on individual team members for critical systems and knowledge.
Qualifications
Candidates who meet most of the core qualifications are encouraged to apply; preferred qualifications are optional.
Required Experience
- Experience in infrastructure engineering, site reliability engineering, DevOps, or platform engineering supporting production systems used by real customers.
- Hands-on experience running production Kubernetes, authoring and maintaining Helm charts, and tuning autoscaling and resource requests under live traffic.
- Experience operating production CI/CD and GitOps workflows with dependable rollback procedures.
- Experience carrying on-call responsibility for systems you built, leading incident response, documenting follow-up actions, and improving unreliable alerts.
- Experience building internal developer tools, such as CLIs, development environments, and per-pull-request environments, with attention to actual adoption.
Required Skills
- Strong working knowledge of AWS and Terraform, including modular, readable infrastructure code and an understanding of how planned changes affect critical systems.
- Ability to work effectively in remote, asynchronous environments through clear reasoning and communication that provides sufficient context.
- Ability to deliver an initial solution, gather feedback, and continue improving it until the underlying performance or reliability problem is addressed.
- Fluency with modern AI tools for debugging, documentation, and reducing repetitive operational work.
- Practical judgment when evaluating build-versus-buy decisions, ongoing operating costs, and changing technical needs.
- Personal involvement in creating and publishing work, such as writing, video, code, photography, or music. Audience size is not a qualification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with social media management software, including experience using the hiring organization’s product.
- Experience with Datadog, Sentry, or comparable observability tools, including designing logs and metrics with cost awareness.
- Experience with Cloudflare Workers, Zero Trust, and DNS.
- Contributions to an open-source Terraform module or tool.
Technology Environment
- Cloud and infrastructure as code: AWS, GCP, Cloudflare, and Terraform; services include EC2, EKS, S3, SQS, SNS, ECR, IAM, ALB, and BigQuery.
- Orchestration and delivery: Kubernetes on EKS, Helm, KEDA for SQS-driven autoscaling, ArgoCD, and an internal canary deployment system being extended with Argo Rollouts. Preview environments include full-stack per-pull-request deployments and frontend branch deployments.
- CI/CD: GitHub Actions with self-hosted AWS runners, including KVM-capable instances for Android UI tests. Services are progressively being consolidated into a monorepo.
- Observability and incidents: Datadog for logs, metrics, APM, and spans; Sentry for errors; Incident.io and some PagerDuty usage for incident management and postmortems.
- Networking and DNS: Cloudflare Workers, Zero Trust, and DNS; CloudFront; cross-account VPC peering; and OctoDNS for DNS-as-code.
- Data stores: MongoDB accessed through GraphQL, Elasticsearch, and Redis.
- Local development: An internal environment that mirrors production, running in OrbStack with prebuilt production containers from ECR.
- Languages and runtimes: Node.js and TypeScript across most services, Python for selected services and tooling, and PHP for critical legacy services undergoing gradual replacement.
Work Conditions and Hiring Process
In-person team gatherings take place once or twice per year, with attendance strongly encouraged.
The hiring process includes an application review, a hiring manager interview with another engineering leader, and an asynchronous take-home exercise of no more than two pages reviewing a system or scenario. Subsequent conversations include a technical interview with two infrastructure engineers, an engineering leadership interview covering leadership and cross-functional impact, and a final interview with executive leadership.
Final-stage candidates participate in a fully paid, two-day collaboration on a real project, including a kickoff, team introductions, and collaboration through Slack. The process concludes with an offer and discussion of final details.
Application responses may take several days to several weeks. Candidates are encouraged to apply to one engineering opening; applications may be redirected internally if another position is a stronger fit. Submitting an application includes consent to the collection and processing of personal data for recruiting purposes under the employer’s privacy policy.
