About the Role
This opportunity is for an experienced Scrum Master supporting a federal Department of Veterans Affairs program. The role focuses on guiding Agile practices, facilitating Scrum ceremonies, supporting software delivery teams, improving processes, and helping teams remove blockers so projects can move forward smoothly.
The Scrum Master will work closely with Agile software development teams, product leadership, client stakeholders, and senior-level business leaders to support effective delivery, strong communication, process standardization, and continuous improvement. This role is ideal for someone with strong Agile facilitation experience, experience in software development environments, and the ability to support large-scale technical initiatives involving software development, data management, and system integration.
Employment Type: Full Time
Compensation: $100,000 - $110,000 per year
What You’ll Do
- Lead Scrum events, including Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Planning, Sprint Reviews, Retrospectives, Demos, and PI Planning.
- Build strong working relationships that support collaboration, transparency, innovation, and trust across highly cross-functional Agile software development teams.
- Support teams working in CI/CD environments by helping Agile processes run smoothly and consistently.
- Proactively identify, track, and remove impediments that may slow team progress or affect delivery goals.
- Assist the Product Manager with backlog management, including clarity, prioritization, and alignment of backlog items with business goals.
- Champion Agile values, quality practices, process discipline, and continuous improvement across teams and partner organizations.
- Coach team members on Agile best practices, delivery processes, collaboration methods, and opportunities for improvement.
- Work closely with senior client leadership and business stakeholders to advise on process standardization and continuous improvement.
- Guide development teams toward stronger self-organization, cross-functionality, accountability, and Agile adoption.
- Help maximize team performance by encouraging effective communication, clear ownership, and practical Agile execution.
- Mediate conflicts, resolve delivery or communication issues, and support healthy collaboration between development teams, Product Managers, and stakeholders.
- Promote continuous improvement by identifying process enhancements and applying Agile best practices across the team.
- Capture actionable outcomes from meetings, leadership briefings, stakeholder discussions, and team requests.
- Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support team objectives and help ensure project success.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a technical discipline, or another relevant field is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience is required.
- Proven experience managing or supporting large-scale software development, data management, and system integration initiatives.
- Experience facilitating Agile ceremonies and supporting Agile delivery teams in complex technical environments.
- Strong ability to brief senior leadership and capture clear, actionable outcomes from meetings and stakeholder requests.
- Proficiency with Agile project management tools such as Jira, Trello, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and Kanban methodologies is highly desired.
- Experience with SAFe, Agile, or Scrum practices is preferred.
- SAFe, Agile, or Scrum certifications are preferred.
- Experience with the Department of Veterans Affairs or other government agencies is preferred.
- Ability to obtain government clearance is required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Strong ability to collaborate with stakeholders, team members, Product Managers, development teams, and senior-level leaders.
