About the Role
The HR Operations Supervisor - Payroll is responsible for leading and supporting a specialized payroll operations team that serves multiple clients. This role oversees day-to-day team performance, employee development, client support processes, complex issue resolution, service improvements, and payroll operations standards.
The position requires strong leadership, payroll knowledge, HR operations experience, process improvement skills, and the ability to support both employees and clients in a fast-paced service environment.
What You’ll Do
- Provide operational supervision, development, support, and guidance to the Managed Payroll Team.
- Facilitate clear, proactive, and effective communication with employees and clients.
- Create and deliver employee training sessions based on client needs, service trends, and team development opportunities.
- Lead and support internal and external collaboration to help drive successful client outcomes.
- Manage all elements of the internal recruiting and onboarding process for new hires joining the Managed Payroll Team.
- Support team members in creating SOPs for Managed Payroll service processes, procedures, and support standards.
- Collaborate with HR operations leadership to address service improvements, resource allocation, and strategic planning needs.
- Own, address, and create action plans for complex escalations while providing support to team members and clients.
- Perform recurring supervisory duties, including employee performance management, time and attendance tracking, payroll management and approval, and internal employee onboarding and offboarding.
- Identify and implement process improvements, including the development of additional payroll support services.
- Build and maintain employee client portfolios that align with organizational goals and workload standards.
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing across a multi-client portfolio while following internal SLAs and compliance requirements.
- Maintain strong internal controls and audit-ready documentation at all times.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the Managed Payroll organization.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and/or a minimum of three years of related human resources experience preferred.
- Minimum of two years of supervisory experience in a fast-paced environment preferred.
- Minimum of two years of related HCM experience preferred.
- Advanced understanding of HR and payroll best practices.
- Experience mentoring, coaching, and developing employees.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and support process improvements.
- Ability to learn and navigate a variety of HR systems and platforms, including payroll, benefits, applicant tracking systems, and HRIS tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to organize, manage, and track multiple detailed tasks and assignments while priorities and deadlines change frequently.
- Ability to deliver clear and effective presentations.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods of time.
- Ability to move up to 15 pounds at times.
- Ability to participate in video conferences and meetings.
