Annual Total Target Compensation: $105,000 – $115,000 per year, plus equity

About the Role
This fully remote Sr Staff Accountant position is an opportunity for a proactive, detail-oriented accounting professional to take ownership of day-to-day transactional accounting while playing a key role in producing accurate and timely financial statements.
The role is central to the month-end close process and is responsible for maintaining data integrity, improving accounting workflows, reviewing the work of other accounting team members, and delivering draft financial statements to the Controller by the fifth day of each month.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, enjoys mentoring and developing others, and can combine strong technical accounting skills with team leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and continuous process improvement.
What You’ll Do
- Month-End Close & Reporting: Prepare accurate financial statements for delivery to the Controller by the fifth day of each month using efficient fast-close practices. Track progress throughout the close cycle, address delays, and resolve issues to keep reporting accurate and on schedule.
- Balance Sheet Reconciliations: Prepare and review detailed balance sheet reconciliations while assigning reconciliation work to team members and ensuring it is completed accurately.
- Team Oversight & Leadership: Lead General Ledger and Accounts Receivable clerks through regular weekly check-ins, workload coordination, performance coaching, and ongoing training.
- Transaction Review & Accuracy: Review accounting work completed by General Ledger and Accounts Receivable clerks to verify accuracy, timely completion, and compliance with established internal controls.
- Bank & System Controls: Confirm that daily soft bank reconciliations are completed and secure the accounting system following each completed close period.
- Interdepartmental Collaboration: Work closely with Operations and Purchasing to address vendor-related questions and resolve inventory accounting issues.
- Intercompany & Compliance: Complete intercompany account reconciliations and compile the financial information required for income and sales tax compliance, including filings processed through Avalara.
- Variance & Performance Analysis: Analyze monthly budget-to-actual results and provide meaningful financial insights to help leadership understand performance and make informed decisions.
- Audit & Special Projects: Assist with audits, physical inventory counts, accounting system transitions, and other accounting projects involving teams across the organization.
- Inbox & Documentation Management: Maintain the accounting inbox and ensure supporting financial documentation is properly organized and stored within accounting systems and shared drives.
- Contribute to the annual budgeting cycle by analyzing historical vendor spending, preparing trend reports, and documenting relevant observations.
- Compile and organize financial and compliance information for supervisor review as part of the income tax return preparation process.
- Examine monthly sales tax returns for accuracy and completeness before they are automatically submitted through Avalara.
- Contribute to company-wide accounting initiatives, including the annual audit, physical inventory counts, subsidiary consolidation activities, accounting system migrations, and other special projects.
Qualifications
- 5–7 years of accounting experience, including a strong track record of managing month-end close processes and delivering accurate financial reporting within strict deadlines.
- At least 3 years of experience managing an accounting team within an inventory-based business.
- 3+ years of demonstrated team leadership experience, including mentorship, training, workload management, and performance feedback.
- Proven experience with month-end close and financial reporting.
- Strong attention to detail when reviewing financial transactions for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
- Deep understanding of internal controls and their application within accounting processes.
- Expertise in completing bank reconciliations and securing accounting systems after close to protect financial data integrity and consistency.
- Experience with Full Circle ERP preferred, as well as experience with NetSuite or a similar ERP platform.
- Strong ability to prioritize time, manage competing responsibilities, and clearly communicate priorities in a demanding environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively across departments and collaborate with non-accounting teams.
- Knowledge of sales tax and income tax compliance requirements.
- Experience preparing supporting documentation for audits, tax returns, and external reporting.
- CPA preferred but not required.
- Big Four accounting experience preferred but not required.
