About the Role
The Data Engineer - New Grad role focuses on developing and improving a production software product while applying data engineering practices in a secure, well-tested, maintainable, and high-scale environment. The position will contribute to small features and improvements, solve technical problems of low to moderate scope and complexity, maintain engineering standards, participate in code reviews, and help address technical debt.
This opportunity is suited to a new or recent graduate with professional or academic experience in Python or Go, cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP, infrastructure as code, data warehousing, ELT, and big data technologies including Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark, and Apache Iceberg. The role operates within a fully remote and asynchronous environment and includes participation in on-call rotations.
What You'll Do
- Develop product features and improvements with an emphasis on security, testing, performance, and maintainability.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering stakeholders to maintain high quality standards in a fast-paced, iterative development environment.
- Solve technical problems of low to moderate scope and complexity.
- Write code that follows established standards for style, maintainability, and data engineering best practices in a high-scale environment.
- Maintain and advocate for engineering standards through code review.
- Identify technical debt and other impediments to team efficiency, then propose and implement appropriate solutions.
- Communicate publicly about specific technical projects and community contributions when required.
- Ship small features and improvements with guidance and support from senior team members.
- Participate in on-call rotations.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- Professional or academic experience with Python or Go.
- Professional or academic experience with one or more cloud providers, including Azure, AWS, or GCP, as well as infrastructure as code.
- Professional or academic experience with data warehousing and ELT.
- Professional or academic experience with big data technologies such as Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark, or Apache Iceberg.
- Experience working with performance and optimization problems, including the ability to diagnose and prevent performance issues.
Required Skills
- Familiarity with object-oriented design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
- Ability to apply data engineering best practices in a high-scale environment.
- Ability to work effectively in a highly agile and intensely iterative software development process.
- English proficiency sufficient for effective written and verbal communication in a remote and asynchronous work environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and nontechnical audiences.
- Ability to build consensus with peers and provide clear status updates.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently, remain self-motivated, and manage responsibilities effectively.
- Ability to communicate openly and work with an emphasis on inclusion and visibility.
