About the Role

The Senior Mobile Software Engineer (iOS & Android) will lead the architecture and development of mission-critical mobile applications used for real-time situational awareness, telemetry, mapping, video, and field controls. The role focuses on building reliable, high-performance iOS applications with an iPad emphasis and Android applications that continue to operate effectively in environments with intermittent connectivity and demanding field conditions.

This position requires deep mobile engineering expertise across native and cross-platform development, including Swift, Kotlin, real-time data streaming, hardware integration, mobile mapping SDKs, performance optimization, and offline-first synchronization. The engineer will also work with backend, hardware, and UI/UX teams while applying automated testing, CI/CD, crash reporting, security, and data privacy practices to production mobile applications.

What You'll Do

• Lead the architecture and development of primary mobile applications for iOS, with an emphasis on iPad, and Android while maintaining high performance and reliability in field environments.
• Develop complex real-time visualization capabilities, including maps, live video streaming, dynamic telemetry overlays, and mission-critical situational awareness features.
• Evaluate, select, and implement mobile-first technologies, balancing cross-platform development speed with the performance and hardware-access capabilities of native development.
• Optimize mobile applications for battery efficiency, memory usage, CPU performance, and low-latency data processing to support long-duration field operations.
• Design and implement robust offline-first synchronization patterns that maintain application functionality and mission continuity during intermittent connectivity.
• Integrate mobile applications with external hardware and live data sources, including Bluetooth and proprietary controllers.
• Collaborate with backend and hardware teams to define efficient API contracts and low-level communication protocols.
• Work with UI/UX designers to implement mobile interfaces suited to varying real-world and field conditions.
• Use AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot to accelerate software delivery while maintaining production reliability standards.
• Mentor junior developers and establish mobile engineering best practices for CI/CD, automated testing, and crash reporting.
• Implement and maintain mobile security and data privacy practices across application touchpoints, including secure handling of sensitive information.

Qualifications

Required Experience

• 5+ years of experience building and shipping high-quality mobile applications for both iOS and Android.
• Experience developing applications that process real-time data streams and manage complex application state with high-frequency updates.
• Experience integrating mobile applications with external hardware through Bluetooth or proprietary controllers.
• Hands-on experience using mobile mapping SDKs.
• Demonstrated experience shipping complex, data-heavy mobile applications to app stores.

Required Skills

• Expert proficiency with cross-platform mobile frameworks and the ability to develop native modules in Swift for iOS and Kotlin for Android.
• Strong ability to architect and develop reliable, high-performance mobile applications across iOS and Android platforms.
• Ability to design and maintain real-time data streaming and complex state-management workflows for high-frequency updates.
• Ability to implement hardware integrations involving Bluetooth or proprietary controllers.
• Practical expertise with mobile mapping SDKs and real-time mapping or GIS functionality.
• Proficiency with profiling tools used to identify and resolve memory leaks, CPU bottlenecks, and mobile application performance issues.
• Ability to optimize mobile applications for battery efficiency, memory consumption, and low-latency processing.
• Ability to design offline-first synchronization patterns for applications operating with intermittent connectivity.
• Understanding of secure mobile application practices, including protection of personal, private, and regulated information.
• Ability to rapidly prototype novel user-interface concepts while maintaining a clear path to stable, production-grade software.
