Employment Type: Full-time
Experience: 5+ years of professional frontend engineering experience
Core Areas: React, TypeScript, Frontend Architecture, Real-Time Data Visualization, Vite, State Management, UI Performance Optimization, Frontend CI/CD
Compensation: $165,000–$195,000.
About the Role
The Senior Frontend Engineer, Observability will lead the frontend development of real-time monitoring and telemetry dashboards used to visualize network infrastructure and device performance. This hands-on position focuses on building scalable, responsive interfaces that process high-frequency streaming data from thousands of devices, delivering interactive charts, heatmaps, health indicators, and detailed operational views while maintaining high rendering performance.
The role involves end-to-end ownership of frontend architecture, user interfaces, and visualization workflows using React, TypeScript, and modern frontend technologies. Responsibilities include developing network discovery and management interfaces, integrating with backend query and streaming APIs, and incorporating AI-powered functionality. Close collaboration with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and customer-facing teams is essential to delivering reliable, intuitive tools for network operators.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance frontend applications for real-time network observability, monitoring, and telemetry visualization.
- Build interactive dashboards that display high-frequency streaming time-series data, network health metrics, heatmaps, and device status information.
- Optimize frontend rendering performance to support telemetry visualization across thousands of network devices without dropped frames or unnecessary interface complexity.
- Develop intuitive drill-down experiences that allow network operators to navigate from fleet-level monitoring to individual devices and network interfaces.
- Create interfaces for network discovery data, device and interface management, and reviewing differences between intended and actual network configurations.
- Build frontend workflows for reviewing infrastructure changes, identifying configuration drift, and accepting or managing discovered network data.
- Develop management interfaces for deploying, configuring, and monitoring network discovery and telemetry collection agents.
- Implement AI-powered product features and workflows that improve network observability and operational decision-making.
- Integrate frontend applications with backend query APIs, streaming services, and data ingestion systems to deliver accurate, responsive monitoring experiences.
- Establish and maintain scalable frontend architecture, reusable UI components, and engineering practices supporting complex applications and large customer networks.
- Collaborate with product managers, UX/UI designers, backend engineers, customer-facing teams, and other engineering groups to translate operational requirements into functional user experiences.
- Contribute directly to feature implementation, frontend performance improvements, and the ongoing development of monitoring and management applications.
- Use AI coding assistants and development agents to support implementation, refactoring, automated testing, code reviews, and technical documentation.
- Review code, mentor engineering teammates, and share best practices in frontend development, application architecture, and data visualization.
- Participate in engineering planning, product design discussions, technical decisions, and roadmap development.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- At least 5 years of professional experience in frontend engineering, including extensive production experience with React and TypeScript.
- Experience developing user interfaces using design systems and reusable component libraries.
- Experience working with complex frontend application architectures, modern build systems, and multi-application environments.
- Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD workflows for frontend applications, including automated releases, artifact deployment, and monorepo development.
- Practical experience using AI coding assistants and development agents throughout the software development lifecycle.
Required Skills
- Advanced proficiency in React and TypeScript for building and maintaining production frontend applications.
- Strong expertise with Vite and modern frontend build tooling, including configuration and management of complex multi-application build systems.
- Solid understanding of frontend state management patterns and tools, including Zustand, TanStack Query, and the React Context API, within distributed frontend architectures.
- Proficiency with TailwindCSS v4+ and utility-first CSS methodologies for building responsive, maintainable interfaces.
- Ability to develop and maintain reusable UI components and work effectively with established design systems and component libraries.
- Experience with frontend CI/CD pipeline design, automated versioning using semantic-release, artifact deployment, and monorepo workflows.
- Comfortable working with npm workspaces, monorepo structures, and cross-package dependency management.
- Experience implementing end-to-end testing with Playwright or similar frameworks, including accessibility testing and validation using a11y principles, axe-core, and WCAG standards.
- Ability to use AI coding assistants and agents daily for writing and refactoring code, generating tests, reviewing changes, and producing technical documentation.
- Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within small, cross-functional engineering and product teams.
- Ability to contribute to product, design, and technical decisions in a fast-moving development environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building type-safe integrations with backend services using generated API clients from Protocol Buffers and OpenAPI specifications, shared schemas, and consistent error handling and authentication patterns.
- Hands-on experience with Micro-Frontend Architecture and Module Federation, preferably Module Federation 2.0 with Vite.
- Experience developing data visualization interfaces using libraries and platforms such as Recharts, D3, or Grafana.
- Strong understanding of authentication and authorization in single-page applications, including Auth0, OAuth, and role-based access control (RBAC).
- Experience developing software within product-focused engineering teams, including SaaS environments.
- Familiarity with Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code technologies.
- Contributions to open-source software projects or developer tooling.
- Experience optimizing frontend application performance and working with Lighthouse CI performance budgets.
- Understanding of network infrastructure concepts, including IP addressing, device management, SNMP, and network discovery.
