About the Role
This Network Engineer role supports a global remote sensor network used for mission-critical space operations, real-time data collection, and distributed infrastructure monitoring. The position focuses on deploying, maintaining, securing, troubleshooting, and improving the network systems that power remote infrastructure sites around the world.
This role sits at the intersection of networking, infrastructure operations, cloud connectivity, cybersecurity, and remote-site support. The Network Engineer will act as a technical escalation point for site connectivity and infrastructure issues while also helping shape scalable, resilient, and secure network architecture for future operations.
What You’ll Do
- Network Operations & Infrastructure
- Deploy, configure, maintain, and support LAN infrastructure across remote global sensor network sites.
- Troubleshoot complex connectivity issues involving routing, switching, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, NAT, VPNs, and IPsec tunnels.
- Support hybrid connectivity between remote infrastructure and AWS cloud environments.
- Maintain secure remote access infrastructure, including VPN alternatives, mobile device management, and host management solutions.
- Incident Response & Operational Excellence
- Serve as a primary escalation point for network-related outages, service degradation, and operational incidents.
- Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident improvement planning.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, network diagrams, standards, and operational procedures.
- Continuously improve network reliability, observability, scalability, and operational maturity across distributed sites.
- Security & Architecture
- Improve cybersecurity posture through secure network design, firewall policy management, network segmentation, and access controls.
- Support the transition from Palo Alto-based environments to Cisco-based network architectures.
- Monitor and respond to network-based threats in coordination with security and DevSecOps teams.
- Support domestic and international networking requirements, including interoperability and data sovereignty considerations.
- Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Partner with Field Operations, DevSecOps, Engineering, and Infrastructure teams to support site readiness and operational success.
- Support maintenance windows, hardware refreshes, and new remote-site activations.
- Contribute to network automation, infrastructure-as-code initiatives, and operational standardization efforts.
- Identify opportunities to improve remote infrastructure performance, maintainability, and resilience.
Qualifications
- Experience deploying, operating, and troubleshooting enterprise or remote-site network infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, routing, switching, VLANs, subnetting, DNS, DHCP, NAT, VPNs, and firewall policies.
- Hands-on experience with firewall technologies, preferably Palo Alto Networks.
- Familiarity with Cisco Meraki networking platforms and hybrid cloud connectivity.
- Experience troubleshooting IPsec VPN tunnels and AWS networking environments, including VPCs, routing tables, and security groups.
- Comfort working with Linux-based systems in networked infrastructure environments.
- Ability to independently troubleshoot complex technical issues and drive incidents through resolution.
- Strong documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in remote or distributed operational environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting remote infrastructure, sensor networks, edge sites, industrial networks, or distributed field environments.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code, automation, configuration management, or observability tools.
- Familiarity with zero trust principles, secure remote administration, and network segmentation strategies.
- Experience with network migrations, incident management, and root cause analysis processes.
- Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, PCNSA, PCNSE, Meraki certifications, AWS Certified Advanced Networking, or AWS Solutions Architect.
